Oh! How I miss those good old days when I used to relish the services of the parlour. Every time I felt low or sad or excited for any occasion, I used to rush to my favorite parlour for a relaxing manicure, a soothing hair spa and the ultimate body massage.


Whether you are a boy or a girl, I am pretty sure most of you have spent a huge part of the lockdown washing utensils, cleaning the house and studying. We haven’t really gotten a chance to indulge in self-care and pamper ourselves. While going to a parlour during this pandemic is not really safe, neither is ignoring your body and mind. This lockdown indulge in self-care tips without spending money that not only solve your problems but also relax your mind and soul.

1. BANANA HAIR SPA


Who doesn’t want a soothing hair spa after a tiring and hectic day! Sit back and enjoy this natural hair spa to provide your hair with moisture and add shine to it. This easy to make DIY hair spa is surely a must have in our self-care checklist!


All you need:

a. One ripe banana

b. 2 teaspoon olive oil

c. 1 teaspoon honey


Method:

Mash and blend the bananas in a mixer till it forms a smooth paste. Add olive oil and honey to this paste and mix it well. Apply it on your scalp and all over hair. Leave it on for about 20 minutes before rinsing it off.

2. GREEN TEA MASK FOR NIGHT SKIN-CARE


This mixture of green tea and yoghurt helps in calming your sensory organs and thus relaxes your nerves and body. It will help you in unnerving after a stressful day and thus it’s a must to be added to your self-care to do list!

Ingredients:

a. Lipton Green tea sachet

b. 1 teaspoon yoghurt


Method:

Combine the Lipton green tea and yoghurt to get a smooth mixture and apply it to your face. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with cool water.


Green tea is an antibacterial agent which is used for treating acnes, unclogging pores. It will not only help you in soothing your skin but also helps you calm and relax your senses.

Yoghurt contains lactic acid which helps in brightening and cooling the skin.



3. MUMMA’S INSTANT MANICURE NUSKHAA


My mother has a treasure when it comes to self-care tips and they work wonders for me. Washing utensils for months now have made most of our hands dry and rough. Pamper your hands with this quick DIY 3 step manicure exclusively from my mother’s self -care treasure!


You will need:

a. 1 spoon honey

b. Half a lemon

c. Half cup sugar


Method:

Mix the 3 ingredients and apply all over your palm. Make sure to rub between fingers and give your palm a little massage as you apply it! Wash it after 2 minutes and experience the magic yourself! You will not believe the change in your skin texture!

4. TAN REMOVAL AT HOME:


Worried about your skin losing its natural glow? No need to wait to get expensive facials and spas! Here’s another desi nuskhaa that is well tested and definitely works when t comes to tan removal and gaining your skin’s original glow!


All you need:

a. Besan (gram flour)

b. Half a lemon

c. Fresh cream or curd


Method:

Take some besan in a bowl. Squeeze a little lemon juice into it and two teaspoons of curd or fresh cream!


Besan is a well know Indian household secret which has been passed on from generations to us. It helps in removing dust and dirt from the skin and gives the skin its natural glow by removing tan quickly!

5. DIY FACE MASK FOR OILY AND ACNE PRONE SKIN


Experience parlour like experience at home with this DIY face mask! This monsoon make skin care a priority. Skincare routines are very essential in the monsoon especially for oily and acne prone skin. This 3 step DIY face mask is the doorstep solution to all your quarantine parlour needs.


All you need is:

1. 3 tablespoons chickpea flour

2. 4 tablespoons yoghurt

3. 2-3 drops of rose water


Method:

Just mix and remix!


Frequency:

2-3 times a week depending on the intensity of acne and skin type.


Yoghurt is scientifically beneficial for oily and acne prone skin. Yoghurt is also highly anti-inflammatory and so the best ingredient for all your skin care routines!


Chickpea flour is also high in zinc content and helps in fighting acne and other skin-related problems. It helps cleanse the skin and reduce the oil quotient on your skin.


Rosewater is a skin care ingredient that has been used since thousands of years to fight acne due to its antibacterial properties. It also helps in reducing redness and puffiness.



6. THE ULTIMATE HAIR SCRUB

We know that you miss your hairdresser the most out of the lot whether you are a boy or a girl! Some of us stepped up to their hair on their own, some let it grow while some even resorted to go bald this lockdown! Here’s a recipe to solve all your hair care needs this monsoon without stepping foot outside!


All you need:

a. 2/3 amlas

b. 2 tablespoon curd

c. ½ lemon


Method:

Grind the amlas in a mixer and make a paste. Add curd and squeeze a lemon to this paste. Mix thoroughly till all the curd dries up. Apply this paste on your scalp and gently massage for 5/10 minutes! No need for any expensive hair scrub or chemicals when you got Amlas on your side!

All you need:

1. Half a potato

2. Half a cucumber

3. Cotton pads


Method:

Grate half a potato and cucumber. Drain their juice in a small bowl. Add two cotton pads to this juice, one for each eye. Put these cotton pads on your eyes, sit back and relax!

It is extremely important to take out some time during the day to maintain your self-care routine and to pamper yourself to prevent burnout and to be able to look after each and every part of your boy, mind and soul.


Cucumber and potato will cool your eyes and help in reduce the inflammation and swelling under tired and drained eyes. Use this eye pad and say bye bye to those eye bags!

8. ALMOND BODY SCRUB


Missing your favorite parlour masseuse give you the perfect scrub to exfoliate your skin? Don’t you worry! Try these 2 steps and experience self-care at its best. This body scrub is again one of my mom’s secret skin care recipes!


All you need:

a. A handful of almonds

b. Lemon

c. 2 tablespoons yoghurt


Method:

Grind the almonds in a mixture. Squeeze half a lemon into it and add 2 tablespoons of yoghurt. Mix well and scrub it on your face, hands and all over your body.

Almonds help in exfoliating and nourishing your skin by removing the dead layers and scrubbing out the dirt from the skin.


Yoghurt is one of our favorites when it comes to self-care regimes as it is packed with antioxidants which provide deep moisturizing to the skin.

Our skin loves lemon as it provides them the right amount of vitamin C and also keeps the dirt on our skin at bay!

Who doesn’t need some quality time to sit in their favorite corner at home while donning a face pack and pampering themselves? Learn how to make the coolest face pack with just a few basic ingredients.


All you need is:

a. One Banana

b. One Egg white

c. Half cup milk


Method:

Blend the banana in a mixer and add half cup milk and egg white to it. And voila! Your DIY skin care pack is ready to use! Banana is a great ingredient for all self-care routines as it fits all skin types. It nourishes the skin to prevent breakouts and smoothens rough skin.


Milk will help in reducing the oil quotient on your skin and thus reduce the chances of acne. It will also reduce the pores on your face and thus form a perfect ingredient for a self-care routine.
